Well this is likely the last time you will hear from me unless I can get internet connection at LAX, I’ll try but no promises.
Well today is of course the 4th of July, The USA’s biggest holiday, similar to our Australia day but much bigger and more patriotic. We had a BBQ with a group of Redlands hosts, our thanks to the Smiths (who are hosting Tom Pascoe) for their hospitality, great food and beer.
Late in the afternoon we went to the Redlands University where the biggest Firework display in the area is held. The organizing pyrotechnic was Jeff Martin (Jono Shadwick’s host father) and he certainly put on a fantastic display for the stadium which was filled to over flowing and the many thousands outside the stadium as well. In photo of the day there are some pictures of the crowd and fireworks but they don’t do the real show justice, you had to be there.
Well it will be a long day tomorrow, our last day in the states. I imagine it will be an emotional farewell to the Redlands in the morning, speaking to many of the parents it is evident that the boys have become a part of their family and they will be missed.
On our departure from Redlands we have about 4 hours to kill which will be spent at Venice beach, for some of us our first taste of the Californian beach, and for those with any money left then that is where we will get rid of it I’m sure.
