Well this is likely the last time you will hear from me unless I can get internet connection at LAX, I’ll try but no promises.
Well today is of course the 4th of July, The USA’s biggest holiday, similar to our Australia day but much bigger and more patriotic. We had a BBQ with a group of Redlands hosts, our thanks to the Smiths (who
are hosting Tom Pascoe) for their hospitality, great food and beer.

Well another free day for us here so a sleep in for yours
truly, and then my better half decided the suitcase wasn’t full yet so it was
off to the shops. We ended up at Costco a warehouse style bulk shop and it sold
everything from chewing gum to plasma TV’s. It was enormous and very, very
cheap. We have now filled the suitcases. I just hope they aren’t overweight.
Tonight we had the Official Tour Banquet and the induction
of the Australian Expos Hall of Fame Members. It was a wonderful…

Well the games have wrapped up and it was a thrilling day of
baseball, one of the hottest we have had and the boys were fired up for wins.
Although both games were terribly close both the Redlands teams snuck home in the final
innings. That leaves the Expos 18’s winning the series 3-1, and the Expos 16’s
went down 2-3. When I get a report from the boys I’ll post them on the web, though
it may be another 12 hours as today is a free day and I don’t know where they
are.
The Brian Jimenez a…

We only had games today and what disappointing and exciting
games they were; the 18’s was a real nail biter. I’ll leave CC and Greg to
describe the action for you. Suffice it to say it was a great coaches meeting
tonight. Final matches are tomorrow, a 1pm
start so we get our first sleep in of the tour tomorrow (thank God for
that!!!).

Well as you know we went to the San Bernardino Correctional
Facility today (the Jail) and it was very interesting and only a little bit
scary. I think it gave the kids something to think about in that they saw the
consequences of poor decisions in life.
I didn’t get any photos as that wasn’t allowed in the Jail. We did get a
very good lunch, we had the choice of salad bar or burger and fries, it was the
best burger I have had here as it had lettuce and tomato on it which i…

Well as mentioned today is a rest day but not so for the
adults as we were invited to an early morning breakfast (6.45am) with the Kiwanis Club which is like
Rotary, Lions etc. It was a very nice morning (although a little early) and
only reinforced to me how genuinely friendly and welcoming our hosts and the
American people are in general.
Now boys don’t try
this at home. Some of the boys had to catch up on som…

Another big day for the boys with an early start at the University of Redlands. They had their last coaching
clinic with Redlands High School Coaches Estevan Valencia, Gary Poole and Zachary
Arteche. The morning was very clear and for a change we could see the mountains.
It promised to be another hot day. The clinic today split the boys into infield
and outfield and concentrated on their relative skills. The boys were so keen
that after the clinic finished they continued to practice till Greg to…

This morning the team gathered at the Redlands University
and had a Coaching session with Scott Laverty head Coach of the Redlands
Bulldogs. They worked on batting drills breaking it down to the “5 absolutes of
an efficient swing” and then worked on batting stations using the T to try
these techniques. All these drills can be done in their own back yard, some are
already planning where to set up a practice area. They then looked at pitching
while the fielders did some outfield work.

Sorry about the lateness of this report but we get home late
after the night games and I have concentrated on the coaches reports and
scores. The photos of the day today concentrate on the 16’s, with the next game
I will concentrate on the 18’s. I realize that not everyone has been
highlighted on photo of the day yet, I am aiming to correct that this week.
Well today was hot, overcast and humid. The humidity is
unusual for this area so even the locals were complaining. We met at Uncle H…

Well after a late night we had a very early breakfast, were
on the bus at 9am and off on
our way to Redlands.
On the way we passed the “Dolly Parton” memorial (actually a Nuclear Power
station, see the photo of the day). We also had a few hours at the Costa Mesa markets, one
of California’s
largest outdoor markets. Paulie and Cookie decided to burn off some energy
there. I don’t know how they did because it has started to get hot, especially
the further inland we go. It got to around 35C today a…

Well another big day and what a lovely one it was in San Diego. A cool to warm
day greeted us which was good for walking. After a late breakfast at 9am (the boys were allowed to sleep in
a little) the team went for a 20 min power walk to a park where they trained
and finished up with a touch footy game. The 16’s won so the tables have turned
and the 18’s are their slaves for 24hrs.
We then caught a trolley car to the Old Town
historical area to look around some of the preserved building…

Well hello from San
Diego, Home of the Padres. After an early breakfast we
thanked the management of the Castle Inn with a Rousing Aussie, Aussie, Aussie,
(see Photo of the day) and had a 2 hour bus ride south to San Diego. Check in was quick and we hopped
on a tour bus to Tijuana
15mins over the border. We were to take a trolley bus but the hotel advised the
bus as it would save hours in time coming back over the border through
immigration, and indeed it did. The bus trip itself was interesting…

Well what a great day for baseball and it was on for young
and old at the Loara field with the Expo Reds (16’s) vs. the Expo Blues (18’s).
The 16’s had requested not to mix the teams as they wanted to play as a team
and were confident in their abilities against the 18’s, and so it was a hotly
contested game. As the run score didn’t count towards the end result I will put
the coaches’ comments here for you.
Today we were
scheduled to play Golden
West College
but they cancelle…

Well what a great tour of the Angels Stadium we had today, our guide Hal took us around for around for about 2 hours during which we got to see the visitor’s locker rooms, home team dugout, press boxes, press
conference room and more. Hal was very knowledgeable about baseball and the
Angels, though he was impressed with Uncle Reg’s knowledge. We got some good
photos of the team in the dugout and about the complex.
After lunch and a rest (or c

Well the weather here seems pretty predictable, its overcast
and cool in the mornings till the sun burns the cloud off and then its clear
skies (as long as you ignore the smog) and warm to hot for the rest of the day.
The nights are nice and cool.
This morning we had juice and cereal in Denise’s room for a
nice change. It also allowed us to get an early start to Universal Studios
which is 45-60 mins drive away, depending upon traffic. It always amazes me how
travel in cars (or bus) puts…

Well the boys had an early start this morning with an early
run, calisthenics and a little throwing to loosen up and wear off some of the
big breakfasts they are having. Tomorrow they have requested that we have just
cereal and some are already reaching for the fruit.
Although enjoying the planned activities they are itching to get some more baseball in and if we can’t replace the game which was cancelled on us Greg is planning a mixed team game at one of the local fields if

Happy Fathers Day, the three Dads on tour have been accused
of trying to double dip on fathers day, one in the USA today and one more in Oz
next September. Sue Mac Millan thoughtfully presented us with a card and small
gift at breakfast today, she is a great organizer and thinks of everything on
tour.
As mentioned yesterday the hoped for games against a local
team didn’t come off so we went to a local mall with a lot of outlet stores and
the boys saw a movie or played ten pin bowls or j…

Well another warm day here in Anaheim and where best to spend a hot Saturday in June, nowhere else but the Angles Stadium of course! The boys were raring to go when the busses picked us up at 11am for
the short trip to the stadium for the 1pm
game. Why so early? Well there was so much to see and photos to take before we
went in, and even my wife spent at least 40 mins. in the souvenir shop before
the game (no I didn’t complain as I had a great time in there as well).

Hi All,
Well today was certainly a lot warmer (only Reg who is from
The Alice was comfortable) and the heat was on the Expos for their first games against
the Loara High School teams.
But first we had a great breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes at IHOP a short walk down the road (the area where we are staying is nothing but Hotels, eating places and Amusement parks).
Mid morning we caught our busses to the Anderson Bat Company w
