Game - Wednesday 28th June v Redlands

Before our games today we were asked to meet the Californian Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger, unfortunately at the last minute he had to cancel as he was busy signing a $160 Billion Budget!!! His representative Larry Grable attended the game and accepted a gift from the Australian Government, Brisbane Expos and the Indigenous Community of Australia.

Every member of the tour received a personally signed card from “Arnie” with more to come in the post.

The Expos again showed their commitment and ability to win both games for the day.

Given that we have had three (3) great coaching clinics by the local college coaches it has helped greatly in re-enforcing what the players have been taught by out coaching staff albeit in an “American language”!!

All the players have worked on their skills and have each developed day by day in some way.

The Under 16’s got of to a very slow start due to some wayward pitching, and despite swinging the bats very well still found themselves down 2-3 after a couple of innings. After a reminder that frustration leads to failure the boys “woke up”. Max Warren relieved Goffy to completely dominate the opposition hitters. Given the challenge Butcher (Paul Baker) led the bats and we scored a bunch of runs. We eventually won the game 7-4

The under 18’s game was a great all round performance winning 11-4. Our bats were again on fire and every player joined the hit parade. Bobby (Justin Erasmus) pitched with great control of the strike zone and was helped tremendously by Eddie Murphy (Nick) behind the plate.

Tom Pascoe was still on fire with the bat along with Pieman, Knighty, Alpha and Bobby, putting continuous pressure on the highly rated Redlands Team. Making good decisions at the plate and punishing the Redlands pitching was our key to success.

Given the historic significance of our performances to date every player is keen to wrap up the series on Friday.

On a personal note I’m also worried about loosing my famous moustache, as that was the deal with the boys if we won.
